Introduction

Centage's payroll integration for ADP Workforce Now allows you to connect your ADP payroll data directly to Centage's Personnel module. Once connected, you can fetch a defined set of standard personnel fields (such as name, title, and salary) on demand rather than manually importing them. Not all fields in your ADP system are supported, your setup session will confirm exactly what's available for your account.

This guide covers steps 1 through 5, what you'll need to gather from ADP and how to get connected. Steps 6 and 7 are completed together with our team once you've reached out to let us know you're ready.

Before You Begin

This integration is specifically for ADP Workforce Now. If your organization is on a different ADP product, please contact us before proceeding, this guide won't apply.

Note: If your organization already has a separate ADP connection for ERP or GL purposes, this is unrelated. This guide is only for the payroll connection into the Personnel module.

Steps 1-5: What You'll Do

Step 1: Confirm you're on ADP Workforce Now for payroll

This is important, and separate from anything to do with your ERP: our payroll integration only supports ADP Workforce Now specifically. We don't have a payroll connector for other ADP products (Run, Vantage, TotalSource, or others).

Note: If you're not on Workforce Now for payroll, let us know right away, we'll need to have a different conversation about what's possible rather than proceeding with the steps below.

Step 2: Reach out to ADP, there are two contacts involved

You'll likely need to work with two different people on ADP's side. When speaking with them, be specific that this is about payroll API access, not any existing ERP or GL connection:

  • Your ADP account representative can confirm whether payroll API access is included in your current subscription. If it isn't, they'll provide a quote and get that added.

  • Your ADP Workforce Now Administrator (this may be the same person, or someone else at your organization or your ADP team) is who issues the actual SSL certificate and API credentials once access is approved.

When you reach out, let them know specifically that you need API credentials to connect through an existing software connector for payroll data. That phrasing helps make sure you're routed to the right team on ADP's end.

Step 3: Generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR)

As part of setup, you or your IT team will need to generate a CSR for the payroll connection specifically.

Note: This has to be done on your end, we're not able to generate this on your behalf. ADP will provide instructions for this once they process your payroll API access request.

Step 4: What you'll need on hand to connect

Once ADP has issued your payroll credentials, you'll enter the following into Centage's ADP Workforce Now payroll connector:

  1. Client ID

  2. Client Secret

  3. SSL Client Certificate

  4. SSL Client Key

  5. Whether you're connecting a Sandbox or Production ADP environment

  6. Whether sensitive information (fields like SSN) should be included in the data we pull, this is a setting you'll choose at connection time

Step 5: Confirm your service account has full payroll data access

When ADP sets up the account or credentials Centage will use for this payroll connection, please confirm it has full payroll data access, not a limited or partial scope.

A restricted account is the most common cause of incomplete data coming through (for example, only a handful of employees showing up instead of your full headcount).

Note: Once you've completed steps 1 through 5, reply to your Centage Support ticket to let us know. This is what starts steps 6 and 7 below.

What Happens Next (Steps 6-7)

Steps 6 and 7 are completed together with our integration specialist and your advisor, not something you'll need to do alone.

Step 6: Field mapping details

A few payroll fields don't map one to one between ADP and Centage. To avoid rework after your first data pull, we'll confirm with you:

  • How Employee File Number is represented in your ADP setup (if it exists as its own field)

  • How your Division/Department Code is structured (this is sometimes two separate ADP fields that need to be combined)

  • Whether employee names are formatted as “Last, First” or “First Last”

  • Whether wages come through as hourly or annual

Step 7: Connection review and first fetch

Our team reviews your connection to confirm everything looks right, then we'll walk through the Personnel setup with you together to confirm the results are accurate before any data is applied.
