Analytics Maestro Is Missing or Won't Stay On in Excel

Sometimes a Windows update, an Excel update, or another Excel add-in changes a setting that tells Excel to load Analytics Maestro. When that happens, Analytics Maestro disappears from Excel or stops working. Nothing is wrong with your data or your Centage account. The fix is a quick settings change, and this article walks you through it.

This article is for you if:

• Analytics Maestro no longer shows up at the top of Excel
• Analytics Maestro keeps disappearing after you turn it back on
• You see a message that says "A runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-ins"

What to expect:

• Part 1 takes about 2 minutes and fixes most cases.
• Part 2 takes about 5 minutes. It uses a Windows tool called Registry Editor. If you're not comfortable with it, forward this article to your IT team or book time with us and we'll do it with you.
• If Windows asks for an administrator password at any point, stop and contact your IT team. That means your company controls this setting.

Part 1: Turn Analytics Maestro back on

1. Open Excel.
2. Click File in the top left corner.
3. Click Options at the bottom of the left menu. If you don't see it, click More... first, then Options.
4. In the window that opens, click Add-ins on the left.
5. At the bottom of the window, find the drop-down next to Manage. Change it to COM Add-ins, then click Go.
6. Find Analytics Maestro in the list, check the box next to it, and click OK.
7. Look at the top of Excel. You should see Analytics Maestro again.

Did that work?

• Yes, and it stays after closing and reopening Excel: You're done.
• Analytics Maestro isn't in the list: Change the Manage drop-down to Disabled Items, click Go, and turn it back on from there. If it isn't there either, contact us and we'll help you reinstall it.
• You see an error, or the box unchecks itself later: Continue to Part 2.

Part 2: Fix the setting that controls how Analytics Maestro starts

This part changes one number inside Windows. You'll be setting it to 3, which tells Excel to load Analytics Maestro every time it opens. You won't be deleting anything.

Get ready

1. Save your work and close every Excel window.
2. Click the Windows Start button in the bottom left of your screen.
3. Type Registry Editor and click Open when it appears.
4. If Windows asks "Do you want to allow this app to make changes?", click Yes. If it asks for a password you don't have, stop here and contact your IT team.
   
   
   
   Find the Analytics Maestro setting

5. Registry Editor looks like a list of folders on the left side. You'll click the small arrows next to each name to open them, one level at a time.

6. Click the arrow next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
7. Open Software, then Microsoft, then Office, then Excel.
8. Under Excel, open Addins.

Click BimAnalyzer.ExcelAddin. This is Analytics Maestro's setting. (BimAnalyzer is its technical name.)



Change the number to 3

9. On the right side of the window, right-click LoadBehavior and click Modify.
10. A small box opens. Look at the number under Value data.
    • If it already says 3, click OK. Nothing needs to change.

If it says anything else, delete it, type 3, and click OK. Don't change anything else in the box.



Check the second location

11. On the left side, go back up to Excel and open AddinsData.
12. If you see BimAnalyzer.ExcelAddin there, click it and repeat steps 9 and 10.
13. If you don't see it, that's normal. Move on.

Check one more place (only some computers have this)

14. Click the arrow next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER to close it. This makes the next one easier to find.
15. Click the arrow next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
16. Open Software, then Microsoft, then Office, then Excel.
17. Check inside Addins and AddinsData for BimAnalyzer.ExcelAddin. If you find it, repeat steps 9 and 10. If you don't, that's normal.

Finish up

18. Close Registry Editor. Your changes save automatically.
19. Open Excel. Analytics Maestro should be back at the top.
20. If it isn't, repeat Part 1 to turn it on.
